everything you need to read this week by @stephthefounder (May 19th)

The goal is to be the best weekly newsletter to be the most succinct + fun way to learn about all the best things you need to know across tech, startups, VC, etc, sent out every Monday. (and at the minimum, it will include the links I post about every week on instagram!). Feedback (and a better/more creative newsletter name than the boring one I have now) always welcome!

Happy Monday!!

It’s been an interesting few weeks for ~AI hallucinations~ — first the ChatGPT update that made it excessively sycophantic, and now gems like the below + Anthropic’s latest controversy after Claude fabricated a fake academic citation used in a court filing for a major copyright lawsuit over song lyrics.

Given people are increasingly using it for advice/life guidance (vs just information - already high stakes!), I’m curious (and nervous) to see how this will evolve 😅

💰 Companies that will make you a millionaire

Every week I highlight a few of my favorite startups that I personally think are really promising. They’ve typically received funding that week + are hiring, and occasionally I’ll include some special bonus ones.

This week’s companies:

  1. Granola  an awesome AI note-taker I’ve recommended as a user before! Sometimes you see online hype and it doesn't always translate into growth, but for them, they're actually going 10% week over week completely organically. Raised $43 million at a $250 million valuation this week. Job openings can be found here

  2. Doji — allows you to create an AI avatar of yourself so you can try on clothes before you buy them. They raised $14 million this week led by Thrive (an amazing investor, especially for consumer). Job openings can be found here
